July 10, 2008 — Ed O’Reilly has gone from local firefighter to full-time politician. He said this past year has been the hardest he’s worked his whole life. After gathering more than 10,000 signatures, schmoozing with party officials and earning an impressive 22.5 percent of the vote from Democratic convention insiders, the former Watertown resident has secured a spot on the Sept. 16 primary ballot against Sen. John Kerry. O’Reilly, who lives in Gloucester, took time from his hectic campaign schedule to talk with the TAB & Press about his platform, his experience and his deep roots in Watertown.
