August 13, 2008 — It has been three weeks since Sen. John Kerry’s primary opponent, Gloucester attorney Ed O’Reilly, challenged the state’s junior senator to some debates before the Sept. 16 Democratic primary. Shockingly — or not so, considering Kerry — the silence from his camp about agreeing to the challenge has been deafening.
For more than 18 years, Kerry has little to show for his time in Washington “representing” us. Unlike his colleague Sen. Ted Kennedy, and many of the Congressional delegation, Kerry has not managed to get much significant legislation that he has authored approved by the elected body in which he serves.
Just because Kerry doesn’t take O’Reilly’s challenge seriously doesn’t give him the excuse to not show up. Defend your record, Senator, and tell people why you deserve six more years in Washington doing virtually nothing.
